The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025 make a strong statement for sustainability, thanks to our dedicated partners. These partnerships allow us to minimize the event's ecological footprint and set sustainable standards that go far beyond the required regulations.
Together with our strong partner, Saubermacher AG, we developed the innovative and effective waste management concept for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025, named the "Circular WM Concept." The environmental pioneer based in Graz has been repeatedly recognized as the world's most sustainable service provider (GRESB). Through cross-industry collaborations, a true circular economy is being promoted.
The certified Salzburg waste disposal expert and specialized company Gassner Entsorgung is part of the Saubermacher Group and is based in the region of the event. Digi Cycle is a joint venture between Saubermacher AG and Altstoff Recycling Austria (ARA) and represents an important pillar in the holistic approach and implementation of the "Circular WM Concept." With the innovative partner Digi Cycle, the opportunities of digitalization can be leveraged to reduce recycling barriers through targeted information and incentives, while increasing motivation for waste separation and boosting collection rates.
Leikermoser makes a crucial contribution to the "Green Event." With the innovative Diesel HVO 100, the Salzburg-based family business reduces the CO₂ emissions of its fleet by up to 90 percent. The fuel, made entirely from renewable raw materials, ensures powerful mobility even in freezing temperatures and plays a key role in the sustainable implementation of the World Ski Championships.
ISO 20121 is an international standard for sustainable event management that helps organizations design their events in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. It covers all aspects of event planning, from resource usage and waste reduction to stakeholder involvement and long-term impacts. Events certified with ISO 20121 send a strong message for sustainability by focusing on ecological, social, and economic criteria, leaving a positive impact on both the environment and society. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025 is striving for this certification, and we are currently in the process of certification.
At a large-scale event, it is essential to minimize waste to prevent negative environmental impacts. At the same time, it is equally important to effectively process unavoidable waste. In collaboration with the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change at the University of Graz, the environmental impact of the waste management concept will be evaluated and quantified to assess which measures have an effective impact on reducing CO2 emissions. A study is being prepared with the goal of quantitatively evaluating the total greenhouse gas emissions from waste collection, transportation, and disposal during the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025.
klimaaktiv mobil is an initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology (BMK) that supports businesses, municipalities, and organizations in developing sustainable mobility solutions. With a clear focus on reducing CO₂ emissions, klimaaktiv mobil promotes environmentally friendly alternatives such as e-mobility and climate-friendly public transport. The initiative makes an important contribution to achieving Austria's climate goals and protecting our environment through sustainable mobility. In collaboration with klimaaktiv mobil, the environmental impacts of the mobility concept for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025 will be evaluated and quantified, showing the savings that can be achieved through the planned measures.
