Sustainability with Saubermacher

The Circular WM Concept

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025 are setting new standards in sustainability. Our official waste management partner, Saubermacher, is implementing the innovative Circular WM Concept to make the event a model of circular economy. The goal is resource-efficient waste management that also contributes to climate protection.

Focus on Circular Economy

Saubermacher is committed to four key areas: waste prevention, proper waste separation, e-mobility, and reusable packaging. These measures help save up to 182 tons of CO₂ emissions—the equivalent of approximately 19 trips around the equator in a conventional car. A study by the Wegener Center at the University of Graz confirms the significant savings achieved through separate collection and the use of electric vehicles.

“The Wegener Center at the University of Graz impressively demonstrates the immense potential of a consistently practiced circular economy. As the official waste management partner of the 2025 Ski World Championships, we are proud to contribute our expertise and innovative spirit to ensure the event is carried out sustainably. We highly appreciate the exemplary commitment of the Austrian Ski Federation, the local community, its residents, businesses, and all visitors who are collectively taking responsibility for a livable future.”

- Hans Roth, founder of Saubermacher

Smart Solutions for Efficient Waste Disposal

Visitors can locate around 600 waste bins and 30 collection stations via the Digi-Cycle app, ensuring easy navigation to disposal points. Additionally, an innovative electric truck with a material scanner detects incorrect waste disposal and displays real-time feedback on an external screen. This technology directly encourages visitors to separate their waste correctly.

Combining E-Mobility and Circular Economy

Electric vehicles such as e-waste collectors and electric vans optimize waste disposal while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. High-tech sensors in the bins ensure they are only emptied when necessary—another step toward climate protection. Recyclable materials like plastic, glass, and paper are sorted and returned to production cycles, while organic waste is converted into biogas to replace fossil fuels.

Shared Responsibility for the Environment

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2025 present an opportunity to promote environmental awareness and create lasting benefits for the region. Collaboration with local residents and businesses generates added value beyond the event itself.

“Our goal is to organize a resource-efficient event and set sustainable impulses for the region and skiing in general. The FIS Alpine Ski WM Saalbach 2025 aims to become a flagship Green Event in Salzburg, serving as a model for future major winter sports events.”

- Roswitha Stadlober, President of the Austrian Ski Federation
